Your countertops are the most used, most touched, and most visible surfaces in your kitchen or bathroom. They face hot pans, acidic spills, hard water, daily cleaning products, and years of wear — and when they start looking dull, etched, or stained, no amount of household cleaning fixes it. That’s where we come in.
Most stone countertop damage isn’t dramatic — it creeps up. A dull patch here, a rough spot there, a stain that won’t budge no matter what you use. Before long the countertop that looked stunning when it was installed looks tired and worn — and homeowners assume it’s just age, or that nothing can be done.
Almost always, something can be done. Here’s what we typically find and fix:
Tip: If you have marble, limestone, or travertine countertops, ask us about MORE® AntiEtch® — a professionally applied treatment that protects calcium-based stone countertops from acid etching. It’s the one protection standard sealers simply can’t provide.
Every countertop material has its own characteristics, vulnerabilities, and the right care approach.

If you have marble, limestone, or travertine countertops — and you’re tired of watching them etch every time something spills, MORE® AntiEtch® is the treatment worth knowing about.
Standard sealers protect against staining. They do not stop etching. MORE® AntiEtch® is a professionally applied topical protection system that works at the surface of the stone — absorbing the acid reaction before it can damage the marble underneath. The result is a countertop that handles real kitchen and bathroom use without constant worry about permanent damage.
Classic Marble Restoration is a Vetted and Certified Surface Care PRO Partner — meaning our licensing, insurance, and professional training have been independently verified through Surface Care PROS. When you trust us with your surfaces, you’re working with a team held to the highest standards in the surface care industry.
Etching is not permanent — it’s surface-level damage to the stone’s finish that professional honing removes completely in most cases. After honing, the marble is polished back to your preferred finish. The results genuinely surprise most homeowners who have been living with etched marble for years. For ongoing protection against future etching, we recommend MORE® AntiEtch® — the only treatment that actually stops the acid reaction before it damages the stone.
A stain is discoloration from a substance that has absorbed into the stone — oils, wine, coffee, rust. Etching is a dull, rough mark caused by an acid chemically reacting with the stone’s surface — it’s physical damage, not a stain, and no cleaner removes it. Many homeowners confuse the two because they look similar. We assess which issue is present and apply the right restoration approach for each.
The water bead test is the easiest way to check. Put a few drops of water on your granite and watch for 10–15 minutes. If the water beads up, the sealer is working. If it soaks in and darkens the stone, it’s time to reseal. For kitchen countertops, you can run the same test with a small amount of cooking oil — the most common staining agent for granite in food preparation areas.
MORE® AntiEtch® is designed specifically for calcium-based stones — marble, limestone, and travertine — where etching from acids is the primary concern. It is not designed for granite, slate, or other non-calcium stones, and it is for countertops and furniture tops only — not floors or walls. We’ll assess your specific countertop and tell you whether MORE® AntiEtch® is the right treatment for your situation.
Most countertop restoration projects — a kitchen island, bathroom vanity, or set of countertops — are completed in one day. Projects that include significant repair work or multiple surfaces may take longer. We’ll give you a clear timeline during our assessment.
